Video Poker is a popular game that can be enjoyed in casinos all over the globe, or in your house on your computer, through a web connection. The regulations are absolutely simple and consist of the player attempting to get the best assemblage of cards possible in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, without the line of contact with competing players. Of course, tactics used in a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker begins when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and pushes the play button. A hand of five cards will then be "handed out" on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the bettor wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the gambler has decided on which cards he would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.

Normally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that skillful gamblers are agile enough to choose the most beneficial ones each time.

Once the first round has played out, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game give the player an opportunity to increase their profits, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing aspects to increase playability.
