Video Poker is a popular game that can be played in casinos around the world, or in your house on your computer, through a web account. The regulations are very simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the best combination of cards achievable in order to acquire money. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, without the interaction with any other players. Of course, methods used in a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be "given out" on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and enthusiasts will need to now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the player has chosen which cards he or she would like to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards will be given out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Generally, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payout schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that experienced gamblers are agile enough to pick the most beneficial ones every instance.

As soon as the first round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that might been won. Additionally, a few versions of the game give the player an opportunity to increase their profits, in which situation a further game is played. There are also differences among specific machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
